Technologic.
After watching the video I have to say I am persuaded to believe most if not all of the statistics and facts presented. To start off it makes sense that China will become the world’s number one speaking country. China, from what I have been told, among other select countries such as India, put very high emphasis on their educational programs and institutions. They develop strict curriculums producing stringent expectations. My cousins in Honduras, a third world, country are forced to learn three languages in their school. Yet we, “snobby superior Americans”, slide through our education only considering English. Every day technology is improving and enhancing it’s abilities. Your newly produced computer is outdated hopefully only in six months. Sound and video editing, micro-chips, cell phones, all sorts of techno devices are exponentially improving therefore it makes sense that the training people receive have a futuristic outlook. It makes sense people be going to school for jobs that have yet to even exist because by the time they are out of school they will. Many feel it is important we stay ahead of the curve we stand a better chance of dealing wish world wide health issues, economic crisis, and environmental issues. Everyone I know has a facebook or a myspace. Both extend not only to the general population, but groups use them for publicity and marketing. The members include music bands, celebrities, sports team’s fan club, etc. Makes sense that the population ranks among the 5th largest country in the world. I have to admit I was pretty surprised about Bermuda’s broadband penetration. I realize that Bermuda might be so technologically delayed, but why is it the leading penetrator. The stats about the text messages made sense considering I alone account for close to 250 texts a day. What does this all mean?? Well, we need technology. Or atleast we act that way. We continue to look for way to improve it and as we do we rely on it that much more. Is this bad? I think there are arguments for both sides. I feel that only time will tell. Although one thing is for certain. Another word for relying on something to heavily is called an addiction. Some addictions are so hard to break people die or go crazy without their desired substance. The better technology becomes, the more we need it, the more we become addicted.
